Faisalabad is Pakistan’s one of the populated city and an industrial hub. The literacy rate is quite low in Faisalabad comparatively to other major cities of Pakistan. Faisalabad is home to Pakistan’s high ranked educational institutes such as: University of Agriculture, Government College University, Divisional Public School Faisalabad, Beacon house School System and National Textile University. Despite the presence of such reputed institutes and well organized secondary and intermediate education infrastructure, the literacy rate of Faisalabad was calculated about 51.9% which makes the city stand at 9th position among 34 districts of province of Punjab.
The factors affecting literacy rate to remain at such low level are observed to be lack of encouragement from families, financial matters and lack of resources. The low literacy rate of the city which is calculated to be the 3rd most populated city of Pakistan shows the reason behind slow development of Pakistan. No country has ever progressed without education of its youth. Public sector schools in Punjab district are charging lowest fees, proving books and necessary equipments, to encourage admissions of students. However, these measures still have not made much difference.
