PEC has responsibility to issue roll number slips, register students belonging from all 37 districts of Punjab, organize examinations centers, prescribe checking and scoring criterion, deliver results and conclude annual report based on results. PEC was established in 2002 to originate an examination system in Punjab that would ensure unbiased and fair examination for 5th and 8th classes that has to be serving same standards to its all candidates.
Although, the 5th and 8th class PEC examinations have not been made compulsory by the government of Punjab but a few schools have added this exception in their school regulatory.
